Arm Liposuction-Do Your Arms Stay Away from Your Body Even at Rest? Check Your Underarms First
Hello, this is Dr. Pyongrim Choi
from Lesarts Plastic Surgery.
Among patients who visit us
before their wedding,
one of the comments
we hear most often is,
“My weight isn’t very high,
but my arms make
my entire upper body
look bigger.”
Particularly when wearing
a wedding dress,
which exposes much of
the upper body,
the arms and underarm contour
often draw attention
even before the waistline.
More important than simply
reducing arm circumference
is how closely the arms
appear to rest against
the sides of the body
when standing naturally.
This case represents
a classic presentation,
in which both
arm thickness
and Underarm Volume
contributed simultaneously,
causing the arms
to appear separated
from the body
even while standing still.

1. Preoperative Analysis: Why Did the Upper Body Appear Larger?
The patient was:
-A woman in her early 30s, 162 cm tall and 65 kg in weight
-Someone who had experienced repeated weight fluctuations, resulting in mildly decreased skin elasticity
-A patient with muscular upper arms accompanied by a layer of fat
The characteristic findings included:
-An outwardly protruding contour along the lateral upper arms
-A structural relationship in which the inner upper arms and underarm area were in contact with each other
-As a result, the arms naturally rested away from the body even at rest
In this situation,
simply reducing arm volume
may create “slimmer arms,”
but it is often insufficient
to create the appearance
of a smaller overall frame.
2. Key Point: Why the Underarm Area Must Be Evaluated Together
The most common reason
the arms appear separated
from the body
is the physical interaction between
Inner Upper Arm Fat
and Underarm Fat.
In other words,
treating only the inner arms
or only the underarm area
is usually inadequate.
These two regions
must be approached
as a single anatomical unit.
By refining both areas together,
the arms can rest closer
to the body,
while creating a smoother transition
from the shoulders
to the arms
and lateral torso,
ultimately producing
a smaller and more refined silhouette.
In this particular case,
a treatment plan that actively included
the Underarm Area
(including the Accessory Breast Area)
was a key component
of the surgical design.
3. Liposuction Strategy for Muscular Arms
In patients with muscular arms,
the most important goal
is to perform liposuction
in a way that preserves
a natural appearance
without exposing
overly prominent muscle contours.
The lateral upper arms
should not be excessively reduced.
Instead,
a smooth contour extending
naturally from the shoulder line
should be maintained.
At the same time,
reduction of inner arm volume
must be balanced with
reduction of underarm fullness.
In addition,
the posterior arm fullness
should be refined
as much as possible
to achieve
an overall decrease
in arm circumference.
Ultimately,
a customized,
region-specific strategy
is essential
to create a natural result
without emphasizing
underlying muscle definition.

How to Reduce Arm Circumference – Lesarts Arm Liposuction
Three Months After Arm Liposuction
The most meaningful change
after surgery
was not simply that
the arms became thinner.
Rather,
it was the change
in the position
of the arms themselves.
-The arms rested more naturally
against the body
-The transition between
the underarm area
and the upper arm
became smoother
-The contour extending
from the shoulders
to the arms
became more refined

As a result,
despite maintaining
the same body weight,
the upper body appeared narrower,
and the overall frame
looked noticeably smaller.

Many people considering
Arm Liposuction
tend to focus only on
reducing arm circumference.
In reality, however,
the key to changing
the overall body silhouette
is to evaluate the arms
and underarms
as a single anatomical unit.
Particularly in patients
whose arms remain separated
from the body even at rest,
or whose inner arms
make substantial contact
with the underarm area,
including the underarms
in the treatment design
becomes a crucial factor
in creating the appearance
of a smaller,
more refined frame.
For patients preparing
for important moments
that will be preserved
in photographs,
such as a wedding,
the goal should not be
simply to make the arms thinner,
but rather to adopt an approach
that transforms
the entire silhouette.
