Arm Liposuction-Can I Achieve a Slim, Straight Idol-Like Arm Line Too?

Hello, this is Dr. Yongseung Seo
from Lesarts Plastic Surgery.

No matter how much weight
you lose through dieting,

there are often certain areas
that seem resistant to change.

Among them,

Upper Arm Fat
and the Accessory Breast Area

are usually the first to stand out
when wearing sleeveless tops
or lightweight clothing.

And when looking at
the slim, well-defined arms
of your favorite idols,

those concerns can feel
even more noticeable.

Even for individuals
with a naturally petite frame
and a slender silhouette,

body shape and fat distribution
are heavily influenced by
genetics and hormones.

As a result,

Subcutaneous Fat
in the arms often persists,

despite consistent dieting efforts.

Because of this,

exercise and dietary control alone

may have limitations
in creating the soft,
slender,

and delicately contoured arm line
that many people desire.

At this point,

Liposuction
can offer much more than
simple weight reduction.

It can uncover
the hidden balance
within one’s physique,

refine proportions,

and help patients achieve
the aesthetic ideal
they have always envisioned.

By improving concerns
that have not responded
to years of personal effort,

the procedure can provide
both a high level of satisfaction
and renewed confidence
every time patients
look in the mirror.

Today,

I would like to introduce
a real patient case

of a woman
with an overall slim physique,

who visited our clinic

hoping to achieve
a smooth,

slender,

and straight arm contour,

similar to that of
her favorite idols.

[Patient Information]

Age: Late 20s

Height: 154 cm

Weight: 42.5 kg

BMI: 17.9 kg/m²

Body Fat Percentage: 22.5%

Even patients with similar body measurements may experience different outcomes following liposuction surgery.

Preoperative Assessment for Arm Liposuction

[Patient Evaluation and Treatment Goals]

The patient had consistently maintained
a very slim body weight,

remaining in the low 40 kg range.

Despite her overall slender physique,

she hoped to achieve
an extremely slim,

straight arm contour,

similar to the sharply defined
arm lines often seen on idols.

On visual examination,

her overall body fat percentage
was considered relatively low.

However,

there was still room
for further visual refinement

by reducing the rounded contour
along the posterior
and outer aspects of the arms.

We also explained in advance

that achieving the patient’s desired
“extremely slender straight arm line”

would depend not only on fat reduction,

but also on her natural body frame
and underlying muscle volume.

For a more detailed assessment,

an ultrasound examination
was performed,

which revealed the following measurements:

Posterior arm:
11/11 mm

Anterior arm:
5/5 mm

Shoulder muscle thickness:
20/17 mm

These findings indicated that

there was a moderate amount of fat
along the posterior aspect
of the arms,

while there was very little fat
in the anterior portion.

In addition,

the shoulder muscles
were relatively well developed,

and mild left-to-right asymmetry
was also present.

Liposuction Design for Arm Contouring

[Liposuction Design for Arm Contouring]

To achieve the slim arm contour
the patient desired,

fat removal was performed
as aggressively as possible.

Paradoxically,

overly aggressive fat removal
that leaves only bone and muscle

can accentuate muscular irregularities,

making the arms appear
thicker rather than slimmer.

Therefore,

a small amount of fat
was intentionally preserved

along the muscle borders

to maintain a smooth
and natural contour.

However,

the patient had
a relatively broader upper body frame
compared with her lower body,

and her shoulder muscles
were also well developed.

For this reason,

we explained in advance

that achieving an “extremely”
slender appearance

or a “perfectly”
straight shoulder line

would not be realistically possible.

In addition,

there was pre-existing
skeletal and muscular asymmetry.

Ultrasound examination revealed

approximately a 3 mm difference
in shoulder muscle thickness
between the two sides.

Accordingly,

we thoroughly explained
that postoperative differences
in arm size or contour

might become more noticeable,

with the right arm
potentially appearing slightly larger
than the left

due to differences
in muscle volume.

The amount of fat
in the anterior axillary region
and Accessory Breast Area

was relatively minimal.

Therefore,

liposuction in these areas

was planned primarily
from the perspective
of subtle contour refinement,

to create a smoother transition
along the arm line.

We also explained

that in some cases,

the degree of change
may be difficult to appreciate.

In addition,

as fat volume decreases
in the Accessory Breast Area,

existing skin folds
may appear more pronounced,

or fine new wrinkles
may develop,

which was discussed
with the patient in advance.

How to Achieve a Straight Arm Line – Dr. Yongseung Seo | Lesarts Plastic Surgery

Following Arm Liposuction,

the outer and posterior contours
of the arms became smoother
and more closely contoured,

just as the patient had hoped.

As a result,

a slender silhouette
extending gracefully

from the shoulders
to the wrists

became apparent,

particularly when wearing
sleeveless clothing.

As anticipated before surgery,

the patient did not achieve
an “extremely” slim
or perfectly straight arm contour.

However,

as the rounded prominence
along the arms was refined,

the volume visible
from the posterior view
was significantly reduced,

creating an overall appearance
that was slimmer
and more well-defined.

Compared with her preoperative appearance,

a smoother upper-body silhouette
was achieved,

giving the impression
of a smaller overall frame.

The patient had also been
fully informed beforehand

about the possibility of
axillary wrinkling
and muscular asymmetry.

By focusing on
the target contour,

the degree of visual improvement
perceived by the patient

ultimately exceeded
her expectations.
