Can a rib-protruding type abdomen be improved with liposuction?

If the abdominal line isn’t neatly refined,
clothes don’t fit well,
and the body can look bulkier
than it actually is.

In particular, some people worry because
the upper abdominal rib line stands out,
while fat gathers along the lower abdomen and flanks,
making the overall abdominal balance feel uneven.

In addition, many patients also want
to improve hip dips
or the pelvic line at the same time.

In today’s post,
we will take a detailed look at
how to correct fat imbalance
in the upper and lower abdomen,
why the flank line also needs to be carefully refined,
and what the key fat transfer points are
for creating a more feminine pelvic line.

[Patient Information]

Age: mid 20s
Height: 159 cm
Weight: 58.8 kg
BMI: 23.3

This patient has had a fit, firm body
from exercising since her teens,
but recently she had been less consistent with workouts,
and gained weight across the entire abdomen,
which became her main concern.

She wanted a more feminine line
through liposuction surgery.

Before abdominal liposuction at Lesarts

[Pre-surgery condition assessment]

-The upper abdomen rib line looked prominent, and the lower abdomen was protruding.

-A flank line was present, but fat was gathered more toward the lower area.

-From the side view, the area above the navel was slightly sunken, but there was protrusion at the ribs and lower abdomen.

-From the back view, protruding love handles made the hip joint and pelvic line look relatively weak.

-Overall, skin elasticity was above average, and the fat amount was moderate.

[Surgical scope and direction]

-Suction up to the protruding upper abdominal rib line to reduce step-offs

-Maximize suction focusing on the lower abdomen and flank line

-Suction the love handles separately from the buttock line

-Fat transfer to hollowed pelvic and hip joint areas

Overall, the plan focused on
reducing the height difference
between protruding and sunken areas,
and setting the surgical direction
to create a natural curve
from the flanks down to the pelvic line.

[Results after abdominal liposuction surgery]

Front-view before-and-after comparison
of abdominal liposuction and pelvic fat transfer

Front-view effect

The flank line was refined as much as possible,
creating an effect that brings the pelvic line to life.

Side-view before-and-after comparison
of abdominal liposuction and pelvic fat transfer

Side-view effect

The upper abdomen looks flatter,
but the rib line does not appear overly prominent.

With lower abdominal suction,
the protruding area was improved.

As the front-to-back width decreased,
there was an overall effect
of reducing the waist size.

Back-view before-and-after comparison
of abdominal liposuction and pelvic fat transfer

Back-view effect

The curve of the waistline becomes more defined,
and with fat transfer to the pelvis and hip joint areas,
the waist–pelvis–thigh saddlebag line
connects naturally and smoothly.

This patient wanted
both upper and lower abdominal fat improvement
along with reinforcement of a more feminine pelvic line.

Accordingly, we established and performed
an integrated abdomen–pelvis contouring plan,
which included correction of the protruding upper abdominal line,
reduction of the lower abdominal fat-layer thickness,
refinement of the lateral abdominal contour,
and pelvic fat transfer.

Abdominal liposuction is not a surgery
that simply makes the fat layer thinner
to complete a line.

It is a procedure aiming to
check the abdominal framework and muscles,
and make protruding areas and hollow areas
connect naturally as a whole.

Please remember that
just as we hide weaknesses and highlight strengths in life,
the same principle can be applied
to liposuction as well.
