Gynecomastia Surgery 2-Month Chest Reduction Results – Lesarts Plastic Surgery – Dr. Kukhan Lee
Among patients considering
gynecomastia surgery,
many worry not only about
chest volume reduction,
but also how the
areola’s shape, size, and color
may change after surgery.
These concerns often lead
to hesitation before deciding.
In this article,
I would like to share
a real clinical case
that may help
those with similar concerns.
When the areola appears
large or protruded
before surgery,
many patients worry
that this appearance
may remain afterward.
Some patients with
a relatively lighter
areola pigmentation
also feel anxious about
possible color changes
after surgery.
One of the areas
where noticeable change occurs
after gynecomastia surgery
is the areola itself.
Through this case,
I will explain the differences
between the preoperative condition
and the results
at 2 months post-surgery.
Preoperative Diagnosis Gynecomastia Surgery – Lesarts Plastic Surgery – Dr. Kukhan Lee
The patient was a man
in his twenties,
classified as Simon grade IIa.
He presented with
moderate overall chest enlargement,
without any noticeable
skin laxity.
The areola size
was relatively large,
and the lower chest
including the areola
showed a generally
protruded contour.
The areola color
was light brown,
with no abnormal findings
on examination.
However, due to
glandular tissue proliferation,
the enlarged and elevated
appearance of the areola
was a significant source
of stress for the patient.
The surgery was performed
using subcutaneous mastectomy
combined with
liposuction.
Now, let us review
the current condition
at 2 months after surgery.

After gynecomastia surgery,
the chest contour
became more masculine overall.
The protrusion
of the lower chest
was effectively corrected,
and the previous
feminized appearance
was replaced with
a flatter, more
natural-looking chest line.
With the removal
of the glandular tissue,
the areola also
appeared less distended,
becoming smaller
and noticeably flatter.
During the process
of areolar contraction,
the color may appear
slightly darker than before.
This is a
relatively common change.
However, it has only been
2 months post-surgery,
and temporary
postoperative pigmentation
may still be present.
Therefore, it is too early
to determine the final
areola color outcome.
Over time, the color
gradually stabilizes
and tends to
become slightly lighter.

As the areola size
gradually decreases,
the pigment-producing cells
become relatively denser.
For this reason,
the areola color
may appear slightly darker
than before surgery.
Since this is still
the early recovery phase,
a mild sense of
awkwardness may remain.
However, over time,
the chest is expected
to settle into
a more natural
and firm contour.
During recovery,
if moderate
chest strength training
is added appropriately,
even more satisfying
results may be achieved.
Changes in the areola
after gynecomastia surgery
are not simply
about size reduction.
They are part of
the overall process
of gland removal
and tissue recovery.
In the early stage,
the color or shape
may feel unfamiliar.
In most cases,
these changes
gradually stabilize
with time.
Therefore, rather than
judging the outcome
based only on
the immediate appearance,
it is important
to understand
and patiently allow
the recovery process
to unfold.
If you are considering
gynecomastia surgery,
being aware of
these expected changes
can help you
make a more
confident decision.
