Stop the Cycle of Repeated Yo-Yo! Discover Hidden Lines with Large-Volume Full-Body Abdominal Liposuction

Hello, this is Dr. Yongseung Seo at Lesarts Plastic Surgery.

Many women dream of a toned body
line without excess fat.

However, the path of dieting
is rarely smooth in reality.

The problem is that repeated weight loss
and gain, the so-called yo-yo effect,
continuously reduces muscle mass
and increases the proportion of visceral fat.

This leads to unsatisfactory changes in appearance,
reduces the likelihood of successful dieting,
and can make it difficult
to achieve results on one’s own.

For taller individuals, even minor weight management
can create a flattering silhouette,
often earning comments like “model-like.”

Conversely, if weight is not managed,
the additional fat can make a tall frame
appear larger than it actually is.

The case we will introduce today involves
a tall patient who was stressed
by frequent weight fluctuations
and visited us to achieve
a well-defined body line.

[Patient Information]

Age: Late 20s
Height: 173 cm
Weight: 62 kg
BMI: 20.7 kg/m²

*Even with similar specifications, results of liposuction
may vary from patient to patient.

Before Lesarts Abdominal Liposuction

[Preoperative Assessment for Abdominal Liposuction]

The patient is 173 cm tall,
with a long and slender frame.

However, she experienced repeated weight loss
and weight gain, a so-called yo-yo effect.

When managed well, her weight remained
in the mid-50 kg range.

But with slight negligence, she quickly exceeded 60 kg,
sometimes reaching a maximum of 65 kg.

At the consultation, she weighed 62 kg,
slightly higher than usual,
making her appear heavier than her height
and actual weight suggested.

She also had a relatively high amount
of visceral fat, requiring lifestyle management
and dieting after abdominal liposuction.

Ultrasound examination results:

Love handles: 21/20 mm
Flanks: 15/15 mm
Upper abdomen: 30 mm
Lower abdomen: 31 mm

Subcutaneous fat was thickly accumulated
in all abdominal areas.

[Abdominal Liposuction Design for Improving the Abdominal Line]

The patient’s request was very clear.

“I want as much fat removed as possible.”

Accordingly, large-volume liposuction was planned
across the entire abdomen
(upper abdomen, lower abdomen, flanks, love handles)
to thin the thick subcutaneous fat layer as much as possible.

However, we discussed three important points
during the preoperative design process.

1. Skeletal and muscle asymmetry:

The patient had asymmetry in the waist bones.
Even with uniform fat removal,
the natural asymmetry of bones and muscles
may still be visible after abdominal liposuction.

2. High visceral fat levels:

She had not only abundant subcutaneous fat
but also high visceral fat inside the abdominal muscles.
Even after removing subcutaneous fat,
the abdomen may remain slightly protruded.
Reducing visceral fat through diet
after liposuction is essential for a flat appearance.

3. The meaning of liposuction:

Liposuction removes subcutaneous fat
to create a slimmer body
and can provide motivation for dieting.

However, removing fat does not guarantee
that weight will never return.
After surgery, the body may try
to restore lost fat,
leading to increased appetite
and potential weight gain.
In some cases, weight may return
or even worsen compared to before.

Therefore, liposuction should be understood
as the beginning of dieting, not the end.

Lesarts Abdominal Liposuction Before and After – Front View

As per the patient’s strong request,
maximum fat removal was performed.

The thick fat layers in the upper
and lower abdomen, over 30 mm,
were significantly reduced.

Especially, the tight areas on the flanks
and love handles were smoothed,
revealing a refreshed waistline.

Her tall height of 173 cm
became even more noticeable.

Lesarts Abdominal Liposuction Before and After – Back View

The preoperative concern regarding skeletal asymmetry
remains slightly visible.

However, overall volume has decreased,
making the appearance look much more natural.

Lesarts Abdominal Liposuction Before and After – Side View

From the side view, subcutaneous fat
has been clearly removed.

However, a slight roundness remains
due to visceral fat.

Considering that only two and a half
months have passed since surgery,
the line already shows the effort
she has put into management.

If she continues dieting consistently,
a more dramatic and flat abdominal line
can be achieved in the future.

For patients like her, with “yo-yo” weight,
liposuction is not the end of dieting
but serves as the strongest motivation
for maintaining results.

Since the number of subcutaneous fat cells
was reduced through surgery,
rapid weight gain like before is somewhat prevented.

By maintaining healthy habits
to manage visceral fat,
she can sustain a refined figure
that complements her 173 cm tall frame
for a lifetime.

The patient was satisfied with the
impressive results that match her height.

We hope she continues to maintain
her beautiful body line in the future.
