When excess fat accumulates
in specific body parts,
most people try two common strategies:

1. Reducing meals for weight loss
2. Focused exercise on the targeted area

But even with weight loss
or increased firmness through exercise,
if the bodyline doesn’t improve
or the proportions look unnatural,
it often leads to more frustration.

In consultations, we frequently see cases
where crash diets reduce water retention
but also lower skin elasticity,

and overtraining one area builds large muscles
that throw off body balance.

A typical example is when patients
overwork their arms to slim them down,
only to end up with bulkier upper arms
due to enlarged muscles.

While exercise is good for health,
overdoing it can backfire
when it comes to aesthetics.

Let’s look at a case of a patient
who visited Lesarts Plastic Surgery
with concerns about bulky arms,
to see exactly which areas should be addressed
to achieve a more delicate upper body silhouette.

The patient had a slim figure overall
except for the arms,
but due to arm and armpit fat,
the upper body appeared wide,
creating the impression of a larger build.

Although her torso was slender,
excess fat in the upper arms
made the arm line look blunt,
disrupting balance and giving off
a chubbier appearance
than her actual body size.

She visited Lesarts Plastic Surgery
with the goal of achieving
long, slender arms that matched
her torso size through arm liposuction,
ultimately aiming to reduce the perception
of upper body bulk.

During the arm liposuction consultation,
we found that fat was heavily concentrated
in the back of the arms and armpit areas,
disrupting the balance of the upper body.

From both front and back views,
the thickness of the arms stood out,
with bulging fat on the outer arms
visually increasing the width of the upper body,
making her frame look larger overall.

From the side, the posterior arm bulge
was especially prominent,
and the overall arm silhouette lacked smoothness.

These features caused issues
when wearing short sleeves, cap sleeves, or sleeveless tops,
as the bulky arms were emphasized,
making her appear heavier than she was.

Therefore, instead of aiming solely
for thinner arms through liposuction,
it was necessary to also contour
the accessory breast and armpit areas
to restore full upper body balance.

Since the patient had low skin elasticity,
we planned a surgery approach
that avoids aggressive fat removal.
Instead, we focused on proportion and harmony—
refining the contour to create the most ideal straight arm line
based on her current condition.

Let’s review the before-and-after difference
seen in the postoperative photos taken 5 months later.

Before surgery, arm fat and armpit bulges
made not only the arms but the entire upper body
appear larger and heavier in proportion.

However, after arm liposuction,
the bulging fat on the outer arms was smoothed out,
visibly narrowing the width of the upper body.
The arms were reshaped into a straight-line form,
bringing better balance to the torso silhouette.

Most notably, the bulky impression from the front view—
caused by thick arms—and the blocky outline from the side—
where the arms covered the torso—
were both corrected
through arm liposuction and armpit fat removal.

This resulted in a much more slender, refined look
with a feminine and delicate impression.

The previously uneven contours of the upper arms
were also addressed,
leaving the entire silhouette
smoother and leaner overall.

Selfies provided directly by the patient
clearly highlight the before-and-after transformation.

Before surgery, reduced skin elasticity
caused a visible sagging effect
in the back of the upper arms.
To address this, we avoided aggressive fat removal
and carefully designed the procedure
to maintain a smooth, toned arm contour.
As a result, the problem areas improved
without causing sagging.

This case involved arm liposuction and
armpit fat removal to reduce the width
of the upper body and create a smaller frame
by addressing bulky arms and side fat.

Just as diet and exercise require a personalized approach,
liposuction must also be customized
based on body composition and skin condition
to achieve ideal results in line with your goals.
