Can abdominal liposuction create a more defined waistline in people with a straight body shape?

Yes. For patients with a straight body shape caused by fullness in the love handles and lower abdomen,
abdominal liposuction can create a more defined waistline while maintaining natural body proportions.

By selectively contouring the lower abdomen, flanks, and love handles,
and adjusting the depth and extent of fat removal based on the patient’s anatomy,
the procedure can reduce abdominal thickness, enhance the waist-to-hip transition,
and achieve a slimmer, more balanced silhouette without making the waist appear unnaturally flat.

Learn More About Lesarts Liposuction

Many patients considering abdominal liposuction
are not simply looking to reduce belly fat.

Instead, they want to improve
a straight body shape,
where the waist appears to fall
in a nearly straight line.

When excess fat accumulates
around the love handles,
the transition from the waist
to the hips can appear wider and heavier,
even in patients who are not overweight.

In this case, we will demonstrate
how abdominal liposuction enhanced
the patient’s natural waistline
and improved overall body proportions.

We hope this case will be helpful
for anyone considering abdominal liposuction
to achieve a more defined
and balanced waist contour.

[Patient Information & Surgical Planning]

Age: 30s
Height / Weight: 168 cm / 58 kg
BMI: 21

During the consultation,
the patient’s primary concern was
the contour of the flanks
and love handles.

She hoped that abdominal liposuction
would create a slimmer,
more defined waistline while
refining the overall abdominal contour.

However, she was also concerned that
removing fat from the love handles
might make her waist appear
too straight or flat.

Before surgery, the central abdomen
was not excessively protruded.

Instead, the fullness extending from
the lower abdomen to the flanks
created a thicker appearance
throughout the waistline.

After evaluation, we found that
removable fat was evenly distributed
throughout the abdomen,
making the patient a good candidate
for both waist contouring
and abdominal circumference reduction.

We also identified that
the anterior abdomen contained
a relatively high proportion
of fibrous fat.

Because of this tissue characteristic,
we explained that some thickness
could remain even after liposuction,
despite successful fat removal.

Our surgical plan therefore focused on
refining the lower abdomen, flanks,
and love handles while carefully adjusting
the depth and extent of fat removal
to preserve a natural waist contour.

The patient also had
mild left-to-right asymmetry.

Rather than simply removing
the maximum amount of fat,
the procedure was carefully planned
to create balanced body proportions
from the front, side, and back views.

The following photographs compare
the patient’s appearance before surgery
and 7 months after abdominal liposuction.

Following abdominal liposuction,
the fullness extending from
the lower abdomen to the flanks
and love handles was reduced,
creating a more defined waist contour.

As both the waist circumference
and flank contour improved,
the heavy transition between
the waist and lower body
became noticeably lighter and smoother.

Even after contouring
the love handles,
the waist did not appear
unnaturally straight or flat.

Instead, fat removal was carefully balanced
to preserve the natural relationship
between the waist and hip contours,
resulting in a slimmer,
more harmonious body silhouette.

From the side view,
the reduction in fullness
through the lower abdomen
and love handle region
created a noticeably smoother
abdominal profile.

The upper contour of the hips
also developed a more natural curve,
giving the buttocks
a subtly lifted appearance.

The bulging below the navel
became flatter after
abdominal liposuction,
revealing a firmer and more refined
anterior abdominal contour.

This patient also had
a relatively high proportion
of fibrous fat
in the anterior abdomen.

To avoid contour irregularities
that can result from excessive fat removal,
the amount of liposuction
was carefully adjusted.

This approach achieved
an ideal abdominal contour
while preserving
a smooth and natural-looking result.

The following selfies were provided
by the patient, comparing
before surgery and approximately
1 month after abdominal liposuction.

A more defined waistline
and a slimmer appearance
of the lower abdomen
are already clearly visible.

The mild asymmetry
between the left and right flanks
also became much less noticeable,
creating a more balanced
and natural-looking waist contour.

At approximately 1 month after surgery,
the tissues are still healing,
so some swelling and firmness
are expected.

Even so, the patient demonstrated
stable recovery and
well-defined contour improvements.

Successful abdominal liposuction
is not simply about
removing as much fat as possible.

It requires accurately identifying
which areas should be contoured
to create ideal body proportions
while preserving a natural appearance.

As demonstrated in this case,
the surgical plan carefully considered
the characteristics of the anterior abdominal tissues,
skin elasticity, and the balance
between adjacent body contours.

If your waistline appears straight
or your abdominal contour
feels disproportionate when wearing clothes,
a personalized consultation at
Lesarts Plastic Surgery
can help determine
the most suitable abdominal liposuction plan
for your body shape.

FAQ

Q1. Who is a good candidate for abdominal liposuction?
Patients with localized fat in the lower abdomen, flanks, or love handles
that does not improve with diet and exercise are often good candidates for abdominal liposuction.

Q2. Can abdominal liposuction create a slimmer waist without making it look flat?
Yes. By carefully preserving the natural relationship between
the waist and hips, abdominal liposuction can create a more defined
waistline while maintaining natural body proportions.

Q3. Can abdominal liposuction improve love handles?
Yes. Reducing excess fat in the love handles can improve the transition
from the waist to the hips, creating a smoother and more balanced body contour.

Q4. When are the final abdominal liposuction results visible?
Although noticeable improvement is often seen within the first few weeks,
swelling continues to resolve over several months, and the body contour
gradually becomes more refined.

Q5. Does abdominal liposuction simply remove as much fat as possible?
No. Successful abdominal liposuction depends on selectively removing fat
while considering tissue characteristics, skin elasticity, body proportions,
and contour balance to achieve natural-looking results.
