When people hear the term
abdominoplasty surgery, many first imagine
a procedure that broadly corrects
severely sagging abdominal skin.

However, each patient’s condition
can vary significantly, and the
extent of correction depends on
the structural cause identified
during an accurate diagnosis.

For this reason,
the surgical range and any
combined procedures may differ
from patient to patient.

There are also many misunderstandings
surrounding Mini Abdominoplasty.

Because of the word “mini,”
many patients assume that
the incision must always be
shorter than other abdominoplasty procedures.

However, the actual incision length
is determined by each patient’s
degree of skin laxity,
sagging pattern, and the amount
of skin that needs to be removed.

In this post,
we will carefully review
the diagnosis, surgical planning,
and final outcome of

Patient Information

Age: 36 years
Height: 166 cm
Weight: 52 kg
BMI: 19
Obstetric History: Two vaginal deliveries

At the time of consultation,
the patient demonstrated visible
lower abdominal skin laxity
and reduced skin elasticity,
which were apparent even
on simple visual examination.

Despite having a relatively
slender body habitus,
skin redundancy concentrated below
the umbilicus, along with
lower abdominal wrinkling and
a protruding contour, contributed to
a blunted and less defined
abdominal appearance.

In particular,
when bending forward,
the lower abdominal skin was observed
to descend downward almost
as if spilling over,
making the pronounced folds and
wrinkling of the lower abdomen
even more conspicuous.

These findings suggested that
the patient’s concerns were not
simply related to excess fat,
but were largely influenced by
post-pregnancy skin laxity and
weakening of the rectus muscles
following pregnancy and childbirth.

Accordingly, it was explained that
an S-Type Mini Abdominoplasty
focused on correcting the deformity
of the lower abdomen would be
the most appropriate treatment option
for improving her abdominal contour.

Fortunately,
skin laxity involving the
upper abdomen was not severe.

However, it was also explained that
an S-Type Mini Abdominoplasty
has limitations in addressing
rectus diastasis extending into
the upper abdomen
and in removing
wrinkling located above the umbilicus.

Even after understanding these limitations,
the patient expressed a strong preference
for minimizing the length of
the surgical scar as much as possible.

For this reason,
she ultimately elected to proceed with
an S-Type Mini Abdominoplasty,
accepting a more conservative correction
in exchange for a shorter incision
and a less extensive procedure.

Let us compare the patient’s appearance
before Mini Abdominoplasty surgery
and at the post-operative follow-up.

The excess skin redundancy and
wrinkling that had accumulated
within the lower abdomen below
the umbilicus have been effectively removed,
while rectus muscle plication
has helped correct the protrusion
of the lower abdomen, resulting in
a smoother and flatter contour.

In addition,
the combination of abdominal liposuction
and hip fat grafting performed concurrently
has further enhanced the body silhouette,
creating a more defined waistline
and a graceful transition extending
from the waist toward the lower body.

These complementary procedures contributed
to a more dramatic overall improvement,
maximizing the aesthetic benefits of
Mini Abdominoplasty surgery.

As skin firmness and contour definition
were restored simultaneously,
the appearance of the upper torso
became noticeably more youthful,
while the patient’s natural
femininity and body proportions
were further emphasized through
a softer and more harmonious silhouette.

From the side profile,
the lower abdomen, which had
previously protruded noticeably
below the umbilicus prior to
Mini Abdominoplasty surgery,
demonstrates a significantly flatter,
firmer, and more youthful appearance.

The thick redundancy of
the lower abdominal skin
that had descended prominently
when bending forward, along with
the deep and visible folds,
has been effectively eliminated,
creating a much smoother contour.

As a result,
even with changes in posture,
the patient now maintains
a tighter and more refined
anterior abdominal profile and
a naturally slender waistline,
without the previous tendency
for the lower abdomen to sag,
bunch, or lose support.

These improvements highlight
the ability of S-Type Mini Abdominoplasty
to restore abdominal firmness
and improve contour irregularities
in carefully selected patients
whose concerns are concentrated
primarily within the lower abdomen.

Because the patient had delivered
her children through vaginal delivery,
she expressed significant concern
about the possibility of
a long postoperative scar.

Accordingly, the amount of
available skin advancement was
carefully assessed in advance,
and the incision was strategically designed
as low as possible along
the lower abdomen to ensure
optimal scar concealment.

As demonstrated in the photographs,
the incision is naturally hidden
within the underwear line,
allowing it to remain inconspicuous
during daily activities and
when wearing swimwear or
low-rise garments.

The patient also reported
a high level of satisfaction
following Mini Abdominoplasty surgery,
noting that the prominent concerns
of lower abdominal protrusion,
skin laxity, and wrinkling
had been effectively corrected,
resulting in an abdomen that
appears noticeably firmer, lighter,
and more youthful in contour.

The photographs presented above
were obtained at 1 year and 2 months
post-operatively
, demonstrating
a favorable maturation process,
with progressive fading and softening
of the surgical scar through
consistent scar care and adherence
to postoperative recommendations.

It was further explained that,
with continued scar management
and regular follow-up care,
the incision line is expected
to become even lighter and
less conspicuous over time,
ultimately blending more naturally
with the surrounding skin.
