Interest in abdominal fat reduction
is steadily increasing,
as it not only affects health,
but also impacts one’s appearance in clothing.

However, relying solely on exercise
and diet habits often fails to reduce
unwanted belly fat effectively.
It can also lead to psychological stress
and contribute to overall health decline.

As a result, more and more people are turning to
abdominal liposuction for faster, visible results.
They visit body contouring clinics
to remove stubborn fat
and restore a more balanced silhouette.

Many people often mistake a rounded belly
for general abdominal obesity,
when in fact, there are different types of belly fat
based on where fat is stored.

The effectiveness of liposuction
can vary depending on the amount of abdominal fat,
and there are several types of abdominal shapes.

Belly fat is commonly categorized
into three types:
upper belly, lower belly, and love handles (sides).

The upper belly type is usually linked to visceral fat,
which is difficult to remove through liposuction alone.

However, abdominal liposuction
can still help reduce the waistline,
and create an environment
that makes it easier to burn visceral fat,
so the procedure is still considered in many cases.

However, it’s essential to improve
daily habits, adjust your diet,
and maintain consistent exercise
to reduce visceral fat effectively.

The lower belly type is mainly composed of subcutaneous fat,
and it is often accompanied by cellulite.

In such cases, lower belly liposuction
can remove fat and also bring
some improvement in cellulite appearance.

The third type, fat around the love handles,
is also subcutaneous,
but tends to have poor skin elasticity.

Through abdominal liposuction,
combined with proper diet and physical activity,
patients can reduce fat and
achieve a more defined waistline.

The patient is 165cm tall, weighs 65.1kg,
with a BMI of 23.9.

Unlike before, when her abdomen had little fat,
she began to struggle with belly fat
due to an irregular diet
developed through her work life,
which became a major source of stress.

After seeing the dramatic before-and-after results
of a friend who had undergone liposuction at our clinic,
the patient visited us to ask whether
upper body liposuction could help
remove as much abdominal fat as possible
and create a tightly cinched waistline.

Based on the body consultation,
the patient had moderate to low skin elasticity.
Her overall body type showed low muscle mass
and higher fat volume.

A large amount of fat was concentrated in the lower abdomen,
causing the area to appear saggy and loose.

If upper body liposuction is performed,
the loose skin may cause the lower belly
to appear slightly bulged after surgery.

Additionally, due to visceral fat,
the ribcage may be pushed forward,
which could make the upper abdomen
look more protruded than it actually is.

After upper body liposuction,
we explained the importance of wearing a compression garment
consistently to prevent sagging in areas
where fat has been removed
and to help create a tight waistline.

Abdominal fat is divided into two types:
subcutaneous fat, which can be removed by liposuction,
and visceral fat, which cannot.

When the amount of visceral fat is high,
the ribcage and abdominal wall expand,
which can reduce the amount of fat
that can be safely removed during surgery.

Even after undergoing liposuction,
it’s essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle
through a balanced diet, regular exercise,
and long-term self-care habits
to support better body contouring results.

For patients with a high amount of visceral fat in the abdomen,
even if the waistline is sculpted through liposuction,
it may be difficult to achieve a visibly slim result
with upper body liposuction alone.

We therefore explained the synergy effect
of combining bra line liposuction,
which connects to the abdomen,
to make the entire upper body appear smaller.

Since a large fat volume was expected before surgery,
we recommended the patient receive an iron injection in advance
to prevent anemia during or after the procedure.

The patient agreed to the surgical plan
designed to create a slimmer and more delicate-looking upper body,
and received the iron injection as advised.

The procedure included liposuction of both the abdomen and bra line,
and a total of 6,000cc of fat was removed safely.

When too much fat is removed,
excess skin can remain and create
uneven or bumpy contours.
That’s why it’s better to focus on balanced liposuction
rather than simply removing large volumes of fat.

In this case, the patient underwent balanced upper body liposuction
and wore a compression garment consistently
for 2–3 months longer than average
to help prevent skin sagging.

Before surgery, the patient’s loosened skin
had stretched and drooped downward.
After the procedure, we observed that
the skin had tightened and adhered well,
especially in the abdominal area.

As a result, the patient achieved
the feminine upper body contour
she originally desired,
with a clearly defined and slim waistline.

In cases where the ribcage appears protruded
due to visceral fat,
even upper body liposuction may not result
in a clearly improved appearance.

This is why post-operative care and maintenance
are critical in determining the final body contour.

In this patient’s case,
upper body liposuction helped reduce abdominal fat,
but we explained that beginning an aggressive diet too soon,
while the body is still recovering,
may lead to loss of elasticity
and weaken the waistline shape.

We recommended consistent use of compression garments
and keeping the skin moisturized
to support skin recovery and contour retention.

Starting from 2 months post-op,
when the skin and muscles begin to stabilize,
we advised adopting a protein-rich diet,
reducing late-night eating,
and engaging in regular physical activity
as part of a long-term lifestyle improvement.
