After childbirth or significant weight changes,
the abdominal skin may sag and the abdominal muscles may stretch,
causing shape changes that differ from typical weight gain.

Such structural changes are difficult to correct
through exercise or diet alone,
making surgical approaches the most effective solution
for those seeking lasting improvement.

This is where abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) comes in —
a procedure that restores both functional stability
and aesthetic balance of the abdomen
by tightening the rectus muscles and correcting skin laxity.

It is one of the most widely chosen procedures
by patients around the world
to address abdominal deformation after childbirth or weight fluctuation.

The case we’ll review today
involves a female patient in her mid-40s
who had previously given birth via Cesarean section.

After childbirth, she struggled for years
with a bulging mid-abdomen and loose skin,
which led her to long consider surgical correction.

Although she initially managed to lose some weight
and improve her waistline after delivery,
her weight gradually increased again over time.
Despite consistent core workouts,
the central abdominal separation and lack of firmness
remained unchanged,
prompting her to carefully consider abdominoplasty.

The patient hesitated due to concerns about
scarring after surgery,
but after thorough consultation and self-evaluation
of her current abdominal condition,
she ultimately decided to proceed with surgery
at Lesarts Plastic Surgery.

During the preoperative consultation,
the patient was diagnosed with a combination of rectus diastasis,
lower abdominal stretch marks,
and fat accumulation across the abdomen.

The degree of rectus muscle separation in the mid-abdomen
was significant enough that exercise alone
would not have been effective in correction.
Therefore, the surgical plan focused on addressing
the bulging central contour
and restoring a firm, flat abdominal line.

Fortunately, the upper abdomen showed minimal sagging,
so a full abdominoplasty was unnecessary.
Instead, the surgery was planned to combine
lower abdominal tightening and silhouette improvement
through S-type mini abdominoplasty with liposuction.

However, since the patient also had
a slightly tilted navel and shoulder height asymmetry,
the surgical approach considered
her overall anatomical balance
to ensure a visually symmetrical result.

1.S-type mini abdominoplasty
Because upper abdominal sagging was mild,
this method was selected to correct
lower abdominal skin laxity and stretch marks
while minimizing incision and dissection range,
focusing only on the necessary areas.

2.Abdominal liposuction
Liposuction was performed on the front abdomen
and love handle areas where fat accumulation was evident,
reducing overall volume
and refining the contour in harmony
with the lifting procedure.

At five months post-surgery,
we reviewed the results and changes
based on follow-up photographs taken
under identical conditions.

Before surgery, the rectus muscles were separated,
causing the abdomen to bulge forward around the navel
and appear wide and rounded from the front view.

After the abdominoplasty and rectus muscle correction,
the abdominal center was brought inward,
creating a cleaner, more defined waistline
than before.

With liposuction performed simultaneously,
the waist contour became more distinct,
and both skin firmness and overall line balance improved —
resulting in a natural, toned abdominal shape
with restored proportion and smooth transitions.

From the oblique angle,
the difference in abdominal projection
before and after abdominoplasty
is clearly visible.

Before surgery, the rectus muscle separation caused
the abdomen to bulge forward,
and the skin from the navel down to the lower abdomen
sagged downward, creating a rounded and heavy appearance.

The smooth curve from the abdomen to the pelvis
was interrupted, and even when standing straight,
the abdomen appeared to droop downward,
giving an unbalanced and heavy impression.

After the abdominoplasty combined with liposuction,
the abdominal area became firmly tightened,
and the previously protruding volume
was evenly refined, resulting in a slimmer, balanced contour.

The loose lower abdominal skin was lifted,
eliminating folds and wrinkles,
while the curve connecting the abdomen to the pelvis
was naturally restored with a clear, graceful line.

From the oblique angle,
the difference in abdominal protrusion
before and after surgery
is clearly noticeable.

Before surgery, rectus diastasis caused the abdomen
to bulge forward, with sagging skin
extending from the navel to the lower abdomen,
creating a round and drooping shape.

The smooth curve from the abdomen to the pelvis
was interrupted, and even when standing upright,
the abdomen appeared heavy and unstructured.

After the abdominoplasty and liposuction,
the abdomen became tight and firm,
with the protruding area reduced,
resulting in a slim and well-balanced contour.

The loosened lower abdominal skin was lifted,
eliminating folds and wrinkles,
while the natural, continuous curve
from the abdomen to the pelvis
was beautifully restored.
