If you’re considering gynecomastia surgery due to symptoms of gynecomastia, it’s important to closely monitor the potential symptoms that can occur during the recovery process.

Among the symptoms that can appear after gynecomastia surgery, the most common are bruising and swelling caused by inevitable bleeding during the surgery.

In some cases, hematoma may also occur, and it’s crucial to understand and manage this possibility.

Gynecomastia surgery involves small incisions around the areola and under the armpits for the removal of glandular tissue, and sometimes liposuction or tissue rearrangement.

During the procedure, bleeding can occur inside the skin, with varying amounts and locations depending on the individual.

Although compression helps with hemostasis, and the body naturally heals over time, if compression isn’t applied properly, blood may accumulate,

leading to the formation of a hematoma.

If a hematoma forms, it needs to be removed, and the area should be cleaned. Afterward, it’s important to properly compress the surgical area to ensure stable healing.

These symptoms after gynecomastia surgery can resolve naturally with appropriate treatment. Therefore, instead of worrying, it’s important to follow the treatment schedule,

adhere to proper compression garment usage, and take the necessary precautions to prevent complications.

I will explain in detail while showing the before-and-after photos of this patient’s gynecomastia surgery.

This patient is in his early 20s. He experienced being overweight during his teenage years, and since then, he has had discomfort due to the protrusion of both breasts.

Even after becoming an adult and trying various dieting methods to lose weight, he couldn’t notice any changes in the protrusion and sagging of his chest.

Ultimately, he decided to undergo gynecomastia surgery to correct both the size and the degree of sagging in his chest, which led him to seek consultation at our clinic.

First, in order to confirm the cause of the gynecomastia, an ultrasound examination was performed. The results showed that both sides of the chest had hypertrophy of the glandular tissue, and the patient was diagnosed with true gynecomastia corresponding to Simon Grade 2-A.

Additionally, a mild degree of breast ptosis (sagging of the breast tissue) and slight nipple inversion were observed on the left side, with intermittent lumps and pain felt in the lower part of the chest.

Therefore, the patient required a glandular tissue removal procedure (mammectomy) to address the enlarged breast volume, which had been a problem since his teenage years,

and to prevent the chest from sinking after the tissue removal. A tissue repositioning procedure was needed to correct the chest shape.

Also, liposuction was necessary to remove the fat accumulated around the inframammary area and shape the overall chest contour.

However, the patient was informed about the potential for hematoma development and the difficulty in achieving perfect symmetry of the areola after surgery.

Below are the before-and-after photos taken 3 months after the gynecomastia surgery.

In the pre-surgery photo, you can clearly see the protruding chest, which is a typical symptom of gynecomastia.

After the gynecomastia surgery, with the removal of glandular tissue, liposuction of the inframammary area, and tissue repositioning,

the chest shape has been improved to a more masculine appearance.

While different clinics may have different aesthetic goals for gynecomastia surgery, at our clinic, we focus on maintaining a certain volume in the upper chest,

near the pectoralis major, rather than flattening the chest completely. We aim to remove the fat and glandular tissue from the lower chest area thoroughly,

while preserving a masculine contour.

You can see the changes in the before-and-after photos while wearing a white t-shirt.

Both the 45-degree view and the side view show a noticeable improvement in the overall volume of the chest, making the patient appear more confident.

As mentioned earlier, we informed the patient about the potential risk of hematoma after gynecomastia surgery, and we closely monitored the recovery process.

On the first day after surgery, the patient visited the clinic due to discomfort from swelling and bruising on the right side of the chest. The necessary treatments were provided,

and the patient was reminded to wear compression garments to prevent hematoma.

Pain levels vary from patient to patient, so if any discomfort or concerns arise after surgery, it is important to visit the clinic for check-ups and receive appropriate

treatment and recovery guidance.

This particular patient experienced discomfort for a longer period during recovery, though there were no unusual symptoms, and the recovery speed was slower compared to other patients. However, the overall improvement in shape was a positive result.

Symptoms such as bruising, swelling, pain, hematoma, tingling, and numbness can occur after gynecomastia surgery, and the severity and recovery time vary from person to person.

Since this is a surgery that many patients are experiencing for the first time, it’s natural to feel worried about these symptoms. However, these issues typically improve over time, so there’s no need to worry excessively.

If discomfort persists due to these symptoms, it is essential to follow up with the healthcare provider to assess the situation and proceed with treatment. Please remember that receiving ongoing care from the medical team is the most important step.
