Hair styling and body management are essential aspects of “self-care” for men, and it’s no exaggeration to say that they are basic practices that shouldn’t be overlooked.

For men, visiting a hair salon rather than a barbershop has become the norm. Similarly, diet, exercise, and personal training (PT) have long been familiar keywords.

However, despite all the effort put into these practices, achieving the desired results is not always easy, and it sometimes leads to additional concerns that prompt individuals to seek medical attention.

One such issue arises when men who are taking hair loss medication start to experience a feeling of enlargement in their chest, leading them to visit a clinic for gynecomastia testing.

Hair loss medications can cause hormonal imbalances, increasing the levels of estrogen in the body, which can lead to the development of breast tissue and, ultimately, gynecomastia.

If you’ve noticed symptoms of gynecomastia after taking a particular medication, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional to diagnose the issue and discuss possible treatment options. Don’t wait too long before seeking medical advice.

Today, we will take a look at the gynecomastia surgery case of a patient diagnosed with Simon Grade 2B.

This patient is in his late 20s and has been aware of his gynecomastia symptoms since his teenage years.

Even after becoming an adult and consistently trying to lose weight, the discomfort caused by the protrusion of his chest persisted, leading him to visit our clinic for correction.

Upon visual inspection, the overall chest protrusion and slight sagging were clearly evident.

To accurately determine the cause of the gynecomastia, an ultrasound was performed, which confirmed the overgrowth of the glandular tissue.

Both sides of the chest were diagnosed as Simon Grade 2B.

Therefore, the patient required surgery to excise the overgrown glandular tissue, which was the cause of the chest volume. Additionally, a tissue rearrangement procedure was necessary to prevent the chest shape from becoming sunken in the space left by the removed glandular tissue.

However, the patient was currently taking medication for hair loss, which could influence hormonal imbalances. We explained that even after undergoing gynecomastia surgery, there is a possibility of recurrence due to the effects of the medication.

Below are the pre- and post-surgery photos taken 2 months after the gynecomastia surgery.

When comparing the medical photos taken before and 2 months after the gynecomastia surgery, it is clear that the patient likely experienced significant discomfort due to the overall volume of the chest.

These issues were corrected through glandular tissue excision, tissue rearrangement, and liposuction.

Additionally, before the surgery, the protruding areolas accentuated the gynecomastia, giving a more pronounced appearance. This has also improved post-surgery.

Through the gynecomastia surgery, the overgrown glandular tissue was removed, reducing the size of the chest. At the same time, the enlarged areolas naturally became smaller, resulting in a more masculine chest shape.

As seen in the before-and-after photos wearing a white t-shirt, the chest, which previously protruded like a woman’s breast line, has now been corrected, and the discomfort caused by it has been eliminated.

When comparing the side view, you can observe that the previously sagging lower chest has now been firmed up and properly positioned after the gynecomastia surgery.

Gynecomastia surgery is a procedure that effectively removes the root cause and corrects the previously troubling area. However, as mentioned earlier, due to the use of medication that affects hormone balance, the possibility of recurrence cannot be completely ruled out.

Therefore, I advised the patient to continue with regular check-ups and ongoing monitoring.
