Gynecomastia surgery removes the developed glandular tissue and fat to create a flatter, more masculine chest silhouette.

However, for those with gynecomastia, a common concern is the possibility of recurrence after surgery.

Even after the surgery, there is a chance of recurrence due to factors such as hormonal imbalances or medications. Therefore, it’s important to have a thorough understanding of this and to maintain proper management.

The gynecomastia surgery case I will be discussing today involves a male patient in his early 50s. He mentioned that he first noticed symptoms of gynecomastia in his 40s.

About 2-3 months prior to visiting the hospital, he began experiencing sudden pain and enlargement in the chest area, which caused discomfort in his daily life.

Despite no weight changes, he noticed his chest protruding and lumps being palpable, which led him to seek an accurate diagnosis and treatment at our hospital.

The patient’s gynecomastia symptoms were also clearly noticeable in the appearance, with a prominent protrusion in the chest area. An ultrasound examination confirmed the overdevelopment of glandular tissue.

As a result, our medical team diagnosed the patient with true gynecomastia, corresponding to Simon Grade 2A.

However, rather than proceeding with surgery immediately, we determined that the sudden enlargement and pain in the chest differed from the typical progression of gynecomastia. Therefore, we recommended that the patient undergo additional, detailed testing and consultation at a higher-level medical institution to investigate other possible causes for the gynecomastia.

The patient returned to our clinic after the pain subsided. We explained that gynecomastia caused by internal hormonal imbalances could potentially recur after surgery, and in the case of recurrence, testing for hormonal imbalances might be necessary.

The patient fully understood this and proceeded with the surgery at our clinic, where we performed glandular tissue excision to reduce the developed chest size and combined it with liposuction to remove the excess fat distributed throughout the chest, improving both the size and shape of the chest.

Next, we will look at the before-and-after comparison photos taken 2 months after the gynecomastia surgery.

When comparing the photos taken 2 months after the gynecomastia surgery, the chest, which was previously protruding, has improved to a flat and natural state.

In particular, the protruding nipple area has transformed into a more masculine contour.

Post-surgery, the pain has subsided, and the chest size has stabilized. The results also show that the chest has been reshaped with no indentations or skin sagging, thanks to tissue repositioning, resulting in a balanced and well-contoured appearance.

The difference before and after the surgery is clearly visible, even when wearing a white t-shirt.

As the protrusion of the chest has disappeared, a cleaner and more streamlined appearance is now achievable.

After the surgery, the balanced chest shape brings out a noticeable sense of confidence.

Given that the patient experienced a rapid change in chest size and pain, regular follow-up care after surgery remains necessary.

Especially due to the potential for recurrence related to hormonal issues, continuous monitoring of weight changes and hormone levels is crucial, which we have consistently advised.

Therefore, in order to prevent recurrence after gynecomastia surgery and maintain results, regular follow-up, weight management, and monitoring of hormone levels are important.

We also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for overall well-being.
